11: New name, same great taste!

Greetings and Salutations!

Welcome to this month’s episode of The Lemon House Monthly, your home for all things weird and wild from the mind of comic book writer and karaoke expert Andrew Leamon.

Let's get down to business…

Hello again, friends! Andrew here. It’s been awhile. Oh yeah, I’ve changed the name of the newsletter. I wanted something clearer than “Lemon House Monthly”. (Honestly, I’ll probably change it again soon.) And I’ve decided to only post when I have important things to discuss. Speaking of...

/ CAMERA MAN #1-2 PRELAUNCH

The highly anticipated sequel is coming soon! Xander kicked off the prelaunch for our next Kickstarter campaign not too long ago, and I wanted to make sure you knew.

Issue #2: REEL PURSUIT

“Just when Cam thinks his time on the movie is over, Loric calls...

Camera Man, Corea, and Pyro must capture mysterious Clips hidden in the dark halls of the Immortal Studios lot before it's too late.”

/ THREE FAVORITES

  1. SOPHIE CAMPBELL’S SUPERGIRL

    The cover to Supergirl #1.
    Comics are good.

We’re only five issues into this run, but I think I can safely say this is a run for the ages. This the most fun I’ve had reading a superhero comic in a long time.

This comic has all the Silver Age sci-fi camp and charm (and superpets!) that I’ve long desired to see return in superhero comics. Tamra Bonvillain provides perfectly bright colors. And did I mention the return of thought bubbles?! This might be my favorite art I’ve seen from Sophie. The lines and colors perfectly match the world Sophie’s building. I love her earnest take on Kara. I could read this series forever. I couldn’t recommend this highly enough.

  2. DISCO ELYSIUM

A rendering of the game Disco Elysium for the Nintendo Switch.
Video games are good, but also hard.

A couple of months ago, I was hanging out at my buddy Alex’s place when he asked me if I had played Disco Elysium before. I said I had heard of it, but never played. So he had me play it on his PS5. And I was IMMEDIATELY hooked. My run didn’t last long, but as soon as it finished I told myself that I would wait until I got a Nintendo Switch 2 to play it again.

I love the storytelling and worldbuilding at play. These writers are incredible. The premise is great:

You’re a citizen detective who wakes up after a “rough” night, and has to relearn the world around him through a murder investigation.

You have two gauges you have to always keep track of: health and morale. So yeah, it’s a very psychological game with lots of skills and dialogue trees. This is my jam. It’s not easy and it’s a style of gameplay that’s new to me, but it’s an excellent game.

  1. CAMPY HORROR MOVIES

The theatrical poster for PHANTASM II. The tagline, "This summer, the ball is back!"
    THE BALL IS BACK, BABY!

If you had asked me ten years ago that I would be this into horror movies, I would’ve laughed in your face. Sure, I’d seen some horror films, but I’m a scaredy cat and I don’t need to pay money to be anxious (I grow my own just fine.) Well, the same Alex who got me into Disco Elysium also convinced me to watch horror movies with him and his two cute kitties.

We started with the Phantasm movies, which I had such a great time with. Then we went through all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies besides the remake. Now, we’re watching the Friday the 13th movies. We just finished “Part 6: Jason Lives”.

Once we finish the Jason movies, we’re watching Freddy vs. Jason, which is the perfect endcap. Then I want to introduce him to some great movie franchises. Still deciding on that though.

In case you’re wondering… My favorites from these films so far: Phantasm 2, Nightmare 3: Dream Warriors, Nightmare 5: The Dream Child, and Friday 6: Jason Lives.

/ PUPDATE(S?!)

Ruthie continues to be the Best Girl. Just look at her.

Best Girl!

Also, not Ruthie, but I did see another very good dog recently when I was in line to see the new Chainsaw Man movie (which I obviously loved).
