10: This is why I write.
HeroesCon, Camera Man #2 update, and a huge life-changing announcement! Plus, my favorite moment with Ruthie from last night.
Greetings and Salutations!
Welcome to this month’s episode of The Lemon House Monthly, your home for all things weird and wild from the mind of comic book writer and karaoke expert Andrew Leamon.
Let's get down to business…
It’s the last day of June! Probably a good idea to get the June edition of the newsletter out. So let’s get down to business!

Last weekend (or was it two weekends ago? Time is a circle.) I drove with fellow creators Alex Breen and Wells Thompson to beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina for Heroescon. It was my first time tabling at a convention, so I was nervous, but it actually was an amazing time.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and buy a book! There were several moments chatting with young fans that reminded me of exactly why I became a comic writer.
In 2010, I read a friend’s copy of All-Star Superman vol. 1, and was so excited that I decided then that if I could make someone feel what I felt in that moment it would be everything. I felt your excitement for issue one of Camera Man, and I can’t wait to get issue two in your hands later this year.
One of the other perks of Heroescon is that it’s a great show for hanging out with my creator buds.

I was so stoked to take this photo with the two of my favorite people on the planet, Kristian Herrera and Coleton Mastick. They are amazingly talented comic creators and just had a successful Kickstarter campaign for their latest issue of “We Call Them Myths”.
I got to meet and hang with so many comic creators I’ve known for years. The chances of me coming back to Charlotte are pretty high. Though, I won’t be driving next time. IYKYK.

Did I mention that I’m now engaged? 🥰

Ash and I went to Saugatuck, Michigan for a week-long vacation. I read her a speech from my phone, and she said yes!
Before you ask, no engagement ring. We’re buying wedding bands. And no wedding date planned. We imagine it will be a private ceremony by the lake with us and Ruthie with an officiant and someone to hold Ruthie’s leash.
I met Ash through Hinge, and immediately knew she would be my entire life from then on. I love her with my whole heart, and I can’t wait to marry her.

I received a bunch of Camera Man #2 thumbnails and characrer designs weeks ago. Y’all, this comic is going to be a good time. We’re planning to launch the #2 Kickstarter campaign in November. We were initially thinking September, but have you seen all the mainstream comics coming out that month?! And October is always a packed month for Kickstarter, so we’re trying to be smart about it.
(If you’ve got a podcast, we’re looking for interview opportunities.)
In other news, I sent a Webtoon-style script off. I wrote a really fun romance story. Excited to see how it turns out! Last night, I finished a draft on a short story. This week, I’m hoping to finish the short story about AI. It’s gonna be great!

It’s fireworks season, so Miss Ruthie is curling up with her dad every night for protection. She’s a big and brave girl.
