"The Coffin Maker" out in LeVar Burton Reads Today
Hi y'all,
I have a newsletter now! You signed up for it at some point (thank you)! My plan is to mostly use this for updates when I have a new story out and perhaps the occasional (quarterly? we'll see) musing on writing/life/fiction I'm reading. I'll try not to bother you often.
Today's update is that "The Coffin Maker" (first published in Uncanny) is out today in LeVar Burton Reads! They've done two other stories of mine (most notably, "The Last Truth" won their first contest), and it is always a pleasure and an honor to hear my words on the podcast.
I was overjoyed that they wanted this story in particular because I've always had a soft spot for it. I wrote the first draft of this story in my parent's house in January of 2021, listening to a lot of Motion City Soundtrack and evermore (Taylor Swift, obviously), and to me those musical hand prints are still all over the story. It's a story that grapples with a lot, but it has an undercurrent of connection and hope, and that's very much tied up in what I was feeling at the time. Related to that time period and all the feelings I was having, readers/listeners should be aware that the story does include mention of a (non-covid) pandemic.
Anyway, I hope you like it! And please always feel free to reply and let me know what you think -- of the newsletters or of the stories.
Love,
AnaMaria
