Dear Internet,
Bernard over at sent out a newsletter today with a mantifesto copied across Substack publishers to rally against the executive committee at Substack. If you’re not aware, there was a trickle of people leaving Substack due to Substack’s politics and now they are leaving in droves. (Bernard mentions a few big publishers who are also in support and publish the manifesto but I haven’t seen those issues yet.)
What is the executive committe doing? Supporting and allowing monitization of content from Nazis and alt-right truthers. The manifesto name checks Patrick Casey, a leader of a now-dufucnt neo-Nazi group, who has a Substack publication and is making money. Casey has been banned across all major social media networks except for Substack yet Substack bans sex workers which drives me wild about their hypocrisy.
It’s getting really bad.
Bernard and I have chatted about what to do in the terms of leaving Substack and I haven’t made a firm decision on what I want to do. But with so much that I believe in being eroded in other areas lately, I’m clinging to whatever self-preservation and belief systems I can. Ethics bubble, sign me up! Ulitmately, I’ll more than likely follow Bernard and others to a newsletter provider who aren’t supporting the alt-right. I hope you come with me.
