Upcoming Changes
Hello everyone!
I’m sending out a quick note to alert folks that I’m changing platforms for my newsletter, hopefully to be completed in another week or so. The next newsletter should be coming through Buttondown, and it should hit your inboxes on or around April 26, to coincide with my next short story publication.
This is going to lead to further changes, however.
1. I will likely need to add a paid tier in the near future.
Substack wasn’t costing me any money because I never monetized my newsletter. (And that was the main reason why I went with them, but, well. Now I know more about the sorts of people they platform.)
Buttondown will cost me money since after you get higher than a certain number of subscribers, you need to pay. That’s fine! I get that using services incites costs—but also, it’d be great if I’m not spending more money on my writing career than I’m bringing in. Between my website hosting fees, professional organization fees, and memberships to various cons, I’m already close to being in the red vs. in the black regarding writing career investments. So, I’ll be adding a (small) paid tier.
2. The paid tier will get bonus content.
I’m planning to leave my basic posts about “Hey, I’ve got a new story out!” and (hopefully one day) “LOOK, A BOOK! PLEASE PREORDER!” free to read, and also my occasional thoughts on writing craft.
But if people want to kick in a couple of bucks a month for deleted scenes, longer posts on craft, and, I don’t know, pictures my kid has drawn of me (complete with forehead wrinkles) that’d be super. Currently, I’m thinking I’ll aim for getting those out once or twice a month.
That’s it! Thanks for sticking with me.
