October Updates and MileHiCon 58 Schedule
Hello, readers!
October’s “official” newsletter is a bit late, both because I wanted a bigger break between sending out the free-to-read version of my novelette “On the Autonomy of Whales” and because last week was my daughter’s fall break and we took care of a bunch of appointments.
So this month’s newsletter has various updates. I’ll kick it off with
MileHiCon 58

Other Updates
ICYMI, I released my novelette “On the Autonomy of Whales” to read for free! Thanks again to FIYAH magazine for giving the story its first home.
The Upper Tentacle’s audiobook has a narrator! I’m so pleased Natalie Naudus is going to bring TUT to auditory life. Preorder the audiobook here: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/amanda-helms/the-upper-tentacle/9781668662373/
I now have film rights representation! Becca Rodriguez at Subtext is the perfect film and TV advocate for The Upper Tentacle and I’m thrilled to get TUT in front of producers and Hollywood types. We fancy!
In my editorial life, I’m now taking submissions for my special call at Diabolical Plots, Diabolical Rot! Final story selections to be made by yours truly! Submissions are open through Oct. 25. Submit here and see our guidelines here.
Over the weekend, I 1) voted
Me, in a blue shirt and sporting my I voted sticker and 2), met up with some new Denver-area 2027 Debut friends!

They are all excellent people and had me in stiches for two hours! Please check out their debuts:
Good Bones by Celia Saint (not available for preorder just yet, but watch for it in Fall 2027! Meantime, see her announcement here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DcOX37IxOht/)
Last, since I mentioned voting myself: if you’re in the US and an eligible voter, please vote early if you can and allow for time to cure your ballot if it turns out it’s needed. Ignore the polls. Nothing is futile; nor is it guaranteed.
Till next time,
Amanda
