Messy
This week has been a pain in my ass. I know it is only Thursday, so I’m not sure what Friday will bring. But I am full of too many emotions.
I’m tired. I’m worried. I’m annoyed. I’m besieged by self doubt (thanks, anxiety!), and I’m trying to just…put one foot in front of the other. Fake it ‘till you make it, I guess? I dunno.
This whole month has felt like running full tilt into doors I thought were open. It’s been like playing the floor is lava, without warning. There are a bunch of things I can’t talk about or, rather, isn’t for public consumption at the moment. Some day, maybe. But by then, this will all feel like a blip on radar of What the Fuck Now.
When I have stretches of time like this, it gets to be very hard to do some things, even if they’re thing I want to do. It took me ALL day yesterday to text a friend to ask about something, even though I very much wanted to text them.
I set reminders for everything—even things I normally wouldn’t. I have to push through the very dense feeling of NOPE, DON’T WANNA on the regular. It’s not depression. It’s not anxiety. It’s just being at capacity. I am not a fan, but that’s just…part of life. It’s absolutely a part of life, when everything is on fire, the world is a mess, and lettuce might be trying to kill us. (SIGH)
So, why do I write about things like this? Because I don’t believe in simply sharing the highlight reel of life. Because if all someone sees is the good stuff, the shiny bits, and the wins, then that’s what they’re comparing their worst days to. And I don’t want that.
At the beginning of the week, I joked to a friend that if I got through this week without biting anyone, it’d be a miracle. Then a series of things happened that made biting look like a mild response.
But I get up, do my workout/run, and I put one foot in front of the other. Sometimes, it’s not about doing everything—it’s about doing what you can. And maybe not with the usual smile. More a littttttle bit more like Roy Kent.
You don’t have to do life perfectly. You don’t have to send the perfect text. You don’t have to get the damn title of that new book right on the first try. Sometimes, a placeholder will do. And always, always your best is good enough.
Remember that.
If you haven’t gotten your copy of Offerings for Ordinary Gods yet, here are some buy links: https://www.alitrotta.com/recent-works. It’s been out the world one whole month, and I missed marking the occasion because of all the chaos.
If you have read it and loved it, please give a review online: Goodreads and Amazon. Posting about it on social media is also excellent! Bonus points if you see it in the wild and post a photo of it. (I live for that shit.)
As always, take care of you. XOXO
