A Little Bit on Quiet and a New Poem at The Deadlands
A dear friend remarked yesterday that I’ve been quiet. Or, at least, quiet for me. And they weren’t wrong. That’s going to be the norm for a bit, probably. There are multiple reasons for that, and unless we’re super close, they won’t be given air. Really, I think that’s for the best. Because so much of life happens offline. It’s easy to forget that there’s other stuff going on than what you see on screen and in posted photos. And, quite frankly, it leaves out the part where we are all…people. And people are messy and have feelings. And we are often just…tired. And we’ve got full plates and difficult things that do not make it into the online world. And really, they shouldn’t. Because everyone is entitled to privacy.
All this is to say, being quiet is a choice. And I’m fine. Just quiet. Or quieter than usual. Because that’s what I need right now.
In other, cooler news, the 35th issue of The Deadlands is out today! It includes my poem, “The High Priestess Falls in Love With Death,” which I wrote almost two years ago. There’s a bit of a story behind it, and I’m grateful it found a home with the wonderful folks at The Deadlands. It won’t be up for free until Aug. 12th, but if you wanna snag the whole fabulous issue right now, you can! It costs the same as a cup of coffee, and you get support a really great lit mag. I’ve worked with the folks there twice, and both times have been a stellar experience.
