Ball Corp. boosts sustainable operations for a tighter world: 84% renewable energy coverage in ’25
Ball Corporation's 2025 Sustainability Report showed 74% recycled content in beverage packaging, with 65% of its aluminium purchased from ASI-certified rolling mills — up sharply from 27% in 2024 — alongside 84% renewable electricity coverage and Scope 1 and 2 emissions 50% below the 2017 baseline.
|
Novelis angle
Ball's near-tripling of ASI-certified aluminium procurement signals a structural shift toward certified, sustainable sourcing that directly benefits FRP suppliers with Novelis's ASI credentials and ~63% average recycled content.

From policy to recycling loops: sustainability push and recycled aluminium reshape global value chains
The EU set its first CBAM certificate price at EUR 75.36/t for Q1 2026; Sweden achieved an 88.4% beverage container deposit return rate approaching its 90% target; and Toyota's UK facility is now casting engine components using aluminium recycled from end-of-life vehicle alloy wheels in a closed-loop manufacturing model.
|
Novelis angle
Sweden's near-90% DRS return rate and Toyota's ELV closed-loop casting validate the scale-up trajectory for the automotive and beverage closed-loop ecosystem underpinning Novelis's 75%-recycled-content 3×30 target.

Copper falls, aluminum spreads spike as US plans Hormuz blockade
President Trump announced a US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz on 12 April after Iran ceasefire talks collapsed, prompting a spike in LME aluminium cash spreads; Gulf states supply roughly 9% of global primary aluminium production and over 20% excluding China.
|
Novelis angle
A prolonged Hormuz closure compounds already-elevated European P1020 premiums following EGA's Al Taweelah outage, raising input costs for primary-metal-dependent FRP producers and reinforcing the competitive advantage of Novelis's scrap-intensive recycling model.

EGA declares force majeure for ‘certain products’ after Taweelah plant hit
Emirates Global Aluminium declared force majeure on certain product deliveries on 12 April after Iranian missile strikes damaged its Al Taweelah smelter, with full restoration of primary aluminium output expected to take up to 12 months.
|
Novelis angle
EGA's extended outage removes a substantial P1020 volume from global ex-China supply, tightening European duty-paid premiums; Novelis's ~63% recycled content provides a partial structural hedge against primary-metal supply shocks.
