Novelis introduces second-generation aluminium-intensive battery enclosure solution for electric vehicles
Novelis unveiled its Generation II aluminium-intensive battery enclosure for EVs, using Advanz s650 alloy in roll-formed frame sections and a structurally integrated thermal management bottom plate; the design achieves more than 20% mass reduction versus baseline aluminium production enclosures and a frame mass efficiency below 1.0 kg/kWh in a cell-to-pack architecture that is 50% lighter than equivalent steel housings.

Germany's aluminium recycling output drops 3% y-o-y; recovery looks lean in 2026
Germany produced 684,564 tonnes of recycled aluminium in Q1 2026, down 3% year-on-year, with secondary remelters falling 4% to 555,925 tonnes; 85% of surveyed companies reported aluminium scrap shortages and 57% do not expect conditions to improve before the end of 2026.
|
Novelis angle
Persistent scrap shortages and declining German recycled output tighten the secondary aluminium supply pool that Novelis Nachterstedt and the Alunorf joint venture depend on to meet the 3×30 recycled-content target.

China aluminium flat-rolled products review tests EU trade defence balance
The European Commission opened a partial interim review of existing anti-dumping measures on Chinese aluminium flat-rolled products, specifically 7000-series alloy sheets used in aviation unit load devices (ULDs), following a request by PalNet; the review will assess whether current duty levels remain appropriate for this aviation-adjacent high-alloy FRP segment.
|
Novelis angle
A revision to 7000-series trade protection affects pricing dynamics for Chinese aerospace-grade aluminium imports competing against European FRP producers; Novelis Koblenz, which manufactures aerospace plate for Airbus and Boeing programmes, stands to benefit if duties are maintained or increased.
