More Pico-8 and Falling Block Jam 2026

Hello again! Last time, I wrote about starting a series of videos on how to start programming games for total beginners using Pico-8. Since then, I’ve released three new videos.

2: Stars Are Just Data

Video #2 covers: Tables, drawing pixels, local variables, returning values, random numbers, for loops, the modulo operator, cool Pico-8 specific code tricks, defining our own arguments, and ultimately making a scrolling star field with a spaceship that shoots bullets.

3: Sine and Cosine Demystified

Video #3 covers: Using sine and cosine functions to make waves, circles, and control a tank-like character.

4: The Map Editor

Video #4 covers: Variable types, strings, arrays, nil, table crimes, the map editor, making a level, sprite flags, and a bit of puzzle design in a Sokoban style game about being a dog.

Falling Block Jam 2026 is in a month!

The page for Falling Block Jam 2026 is live on Itch, and it starts in about a month.

Black and white boxes alternate falling and filling the screen.

I’m excited! I’ll be sure to check in with more videos and news when it starts.
