End of an era: thank you Mpho
Got this forwarded by a friend? Hey! We’re All Saints Amsterdam — a young Episcopal church in Amsterdam centred on radical inclusion and walking the talk of solidarity. Come join us for a service and good food every Sunday at 6 at Vrijburg.
Dear All Saints family,
On behalf of the Bishop’s Committee of All Saints Amsterdam, I am sending you an update. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the Rev. Canon Mpho Tutu van Furth’s decision to embark on a new path in 2026, one that will take her away from All Saints Amsterdam. This transition will allow her to make space for an important project she is undertaking together with her wife, Prof. Dr. Marceline Tutu van Furth.
Mpho, as our co-founder and Priest-in-Charge, you have left a permanent impression on all our hearts. Many of us had never before had the privilege of following Jesus under the care of someone with your life experience and expertise—a person of colour and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. What we have been able to experience with you over these past few years has given All Saints Amsterdam the foundation it needs to be a place of belonging for people who have missed it for so long. Thank you for your years of dedication, and we wish you every blessing in all that the future holds.
Mpho in her own words:
Beloved in Christ,
After prayerful discernment I have informed the Bishop's Committee and The Bishop of my decision to conclude my ministry as Priest‑in‑Charge of All Saints Amsterdam, effective December 21, 2025; my last Sunday will be December 21, 2025 [online!]. This decision comes as I invest in an important podcast project that requires more of my time and energy. Belonging: Gender, Sex & Spirituality will start airing late this year. It has been a privilege to serve you. Over the coming weeks I will work with the Bishop's Committee to support a smooth transition. Please keep the parish, the Bishop's Committee, and our next season of ministry in your prayers.
With gratitude,
The Rev. Canon Mpho Tutu van Furth
What does this mean?
Well—you tell us (please fill out the survey). In all seriousness, we know you may have many questions. Who will celebrate the Eucharist? What will happen with our weekly services? How is Kyle doing? We want you to know that all your questions are valid, and you are welcome to share them with us.
As for Kyle, he sends his love and will continue to focus on his health and personal commitments for the remainder of 2025. After that, we will take things step by step.
This news opens a new chapter for All Saints Amsterdam. As a mission of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, we have the privilege of belonging to a wider community of remarkable people. This means our Bishop’s Committee is not adrift, wondering where to go from here.
Curious about what the future holds? Join us every Sunday at 6, and tell us what you think.
