All Saints Gazette, New Years 2024

Happy New Year from All Saints Amsterdam!

We look forward to seeing you again after what has hopefully been a wonderful holiday, however you celebrated Jesus' birth! We will be having a service on Sunday. Read on for other ways to connect!

Housekeeping

Worship

Worship resumes on first and third Sundays at 6:00 in the parish house of the Old Catholic church, with the next service this Sunday, January 7. Mpho is preaching and presiding this week. The door is to the left of the sanctuary, and you will need to ring the bell. Please ring even if you're late! For the time being, we are exploring a more intimate--but no less holy or reverent--aspect of the Eucharistic celebration. Come try it! Tell us what you like! Tell us what you hate! Potluck afterward, and children's activity parallel to worship.

Children's Church

Kyle will lead this week's activity, which will tie in with the scriptures and prayers that remember Jesus' baptism. All children are welcome to participate, and we will return for Communion. Naturally, children are also welcome to stay in the living room or sanctuary for the whole service if they would like to.

Bible Study resumes on Wednesday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m.

People have joined our church because of this Bible study! Come and try if you haven't yet, and bring a snack or dish to share!

Ways to Go Deeper

Discover Abundance

The Christmas season ends with the Epiphany on January 6, when we remember the Magi who brought gifts to Jesus and were the first people from outside of his region or the Jewish community to meet him and worship him. In the season that follows, All Saints invites you to explore what abundance you have in your life and how you share it. We will share a prompt for reflection every week. Make a video or write a short answer and send it back to us! If you give us permission, we'll share some every week.

Check the sign-up roster: readers, intercessors, children's church

At every service, there are several jobs that do not require much preparation, but make a huge difference! You can sign up for one of them here. We need two readers the two lessons and the prayers and someone (preferably two people) to plan and lead children's church. We will help you get ready! No experience necessary! (Though to be a regular leader of children's activities, you will need to do a brief online training in the prevention of abuse.) For now, Mpho and Kyle will take care of the preaching and presiding columns, but if you would like to try preaching sometime, talk to us about it! (Zinzy did a great job on All Saints Sunday!)

All Saints People Elsewhere

Everything that any of us do is part of the church's worship, and we like to spotlight what our people are doing outside of our scheduled activities. Do you have something going on we should know about? Tell us! See someone else doing something neat and want to be involved? Ask them about it!

Here's our very own Hans at a climate change action on Saturday! May God amplify the voices of all working for climate justice and grant them victory.

Shared with Hans' permission. Keep up the good work, friend!

That's all for today!

See you on Sunday! If you have a pastoral need, please reach out.
