Jesus at Benares by Frank Wesley. From the Vanderbilt Library Database: “Wesley was born in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh into a fifth generation Christian family of Hindu and Muslim descent. He belongs to the Lucknow school of painting. His paintings reflect this influence and that of the Chughtai school of painting that flourished in India at the turn of the century. Wesley made art based on both biblical and secular themes. He used water colours, oil paintings, miniatures and wooden carvings.” Source: https://diglib.library.vanderbilt.edu/diglib-fulldisplay.pl?SID=20240501408131393&code=act&RC=59243&Row=16

This Thursday: Community Dinner and Prayer

The first Thursday of the month is now going to be a shared program with the several other communities that meet in Vrijburg. We have a meal and free-ranging discussion, and one community will lead prayer. This month, the Ethiopian church is on! We do not have a single language that everybody speaks easily, so we are patient and creative. Also, last time the food was 🔥💯👍🏿 (fire meaning awesome, not spicy).

AN INVITATION TO BRAVE SPACE Together we will create brave space Because there is no such thing as a "safe space" - We exist in the real world We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds. In this space We seek to tum down the volume of the outside world, We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere, We call each other to more truth and love We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow. We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know. We will not be perfect. This space will not be perfect. It will not always be what we wish it to be But It will be our brave space together, and We will work on it side by side. by Micky Scott Bey Jones
This poem was shared at the last monthly gathering. Not bad, eh?

Sunday: Eucharist and Meal

We will celebrate the Holy Eucharist this Sunday at 17:30 at Vrijburg. Come join us! Just a reminder that our worship is paperless. You can follow along on a mobile devise or with a prayer book. Please bring a device if you have one (and if you have an extra you can share, bring that too), and please share if somebody near you doesn’t have one. Food of any sort is welcome (friendliness to common dietary restrictions is appreciated where possible, but whatever you are able to bring is very welcome)

Meet our People

We ask about everyone’s name. Here’s Adam!

Story of your name: Adam - YouTube

Each week, we ask someone to tell us about their name. Thanks Adam!

Becoming Beloved Community

Becoming beloved community is a life-long pilgrimage. As All Saints Amsterdam, we have started our journey by reflecting on the significance of our names.  In many cultures, names carry deep meaning and often reflect aspects of one's identity, heritage, or aspirations. In our newsletters, we have been sharing the stories behind our names: their origins, the people who gave them to us, and what our names mean to each of us. Reflect on how your name shapes your understanding of yourself and your connection to others.

You’re welcome to share your reflections with the church WhatsApp group! Send us your number if you’d like to be added.

That's all for today!

Want to talk to a priest? We want to talk to you too!
