Fun facts about women warriors

Triệu Thị Trinh led over 1,000 Vietnamese people in rebellion against the Chinese in the 3rd century when she was TWENTY years old. Also she rode a war elephant. In Vietnam, a Long History she’s quoted as saying “I’d like to ride storms, kill sharks in the open sea, drive out the aggressors, reconquer the country, undo the ties of serfdom, and never bend my back to be the concubine of whatever man.”

Nakano Takeko was one of the ONLY female samurai in Japan’s history (that we know of). She led a group of other women called the Jōshitai (Women’s Army) in the 1860s and fought with a naginta, which you should look up because it’s super cool. She was shot and killed in battle.

Artemisia I of Caria was Queen of Halicarnassus (currently Turkey) and commanded her country’s fleet in the Battle of Salamis, where she excelled in cunning and trickery.
