Damn, women have done a wide range of things
-
Isabella Lucy Bird was the first woman elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. She also visited Australia and DID NOT LIKE IT, which is fair because it has many animals that can kill you, but also it is beautiful? She did like Hawaii, though, because she wasn’t insane
-
Annie Edison Tyler was the first woman to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, which seems a dubious distinction, but people talk about it. Why! Why would ANYONE do this? What is there to be gained except “WHY DID YOU DO IT.” Anyway. She did it.

Althea Gibson was the first Black tennis player to compete at Wimbledon in 1951. She was also an excellent golfer, 5‘11” tall, and when facing bankruptcy at the end of her life, other woman tennis players helped her in her final years. Women helping women! In sports!
