Don't be alarmed
I recently had a short story published, and if you’d like to read it, do I have good news for you: “Don’t Be Alarmed” is available online. The Sun, a venerable publication, accepted it many months ago, and I was (and am) deeply honored.
Originally it was titled “Beatrice,” which is the main character’s name, because I am so bad at titles. The editors suggested the above, which is from a piece of dialogue and I thought fit Beatrice’s generalized-anxiety level quite well. (Their other suggestion was “You Never Know,” also ripped from the dialogue—but, as I told my patient editor, it sounded to me like a Nancy Meyers movie starring David Duchovny and Sandra Bullock. “I’d watch that,” she replied. Honestly, so would I. I mean, for the living room decor alone! Shades of vanilla!)
