Oops! All Writing Updates
Hello hello!
I hope the season is treating you well. This is about the time of year when I would send you a little essay about the value of human art or a neat bird I saw. But I have several pieces of writing news too cool to tack onto the end of a newsletter.
So, please enjoy this mid-July update, and I’ll see you again in August.
The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy
Every year, The Best American collection pairs a series editor and a guest editor to make their selections for the best writing of the year. There are six editor pairs for six collections along a variety of topics, such as best travel writing, best essays, and best mysteries.
“Drosera regina,” my story about a woman whose body behaves like a carnivorous plant, has been selected for The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2026 by series editor John Joseph Adams and guest editor Olivie Blake.

This is a thrilling honor, and I’m so excited to have my work be part of such a great collection. It’s one of twenty stories out of thousands considered to appear in the book.
The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2026 is available for preorder wherever books are sold (in paperback, ebook, and audio) and will be out in the wild October 20th.
Brave New Weird
So, you preordered The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2026, but you want something now. Something greasy, something mean, something that will make you the coolest kid in the room. Something you read in the bathtub while smoking cigarettes as passing trains rattle your apartment.
You want Brave New Weird vol 4! Selected by the fine folks at Tenebrous Press, this anthology is a showcase of the strange, experimental, and off-putting. You’ll find stories, poems, even sequential art, all adding up to an exciting expedition to the fringe of small-form horror. “Drosera regina” fits right in with tales of strange bodies and stranger happenings.

You can find Brave New Weird vol 4 everywhere books are sold, but you’ll do the press a solid by ordering it directly from them. Available in print and ebook for your immediate reading pleasure.
Slip this slim book into your vacation suitcase or your pocket for a creepy commute.
Not Like Other Girls
Enough about “Drosera regina”! You want something new. Something fun. A beach read, perhaps. Fear not, my friends.
“Not Like Other Girls,” my short story debut at Reactor (formally Tor.com) will be out August 5th.
A creature wearing a woman’s body becomes a lonely man’s girlfriend, but the woman suit and his interest start to rot.
Reactor is treating this story like a standalone book release, complete with incredible cover art by painter A.W. Sommers.

“Not Like Other Girls” will be available online and in ebook form August 5th, and you can preorder the ebook now.
This is a short story, but unlike my other publications, I will earn royalties from ebook sales. This means at some point I may receive a royalties check that allows me to buy a slice of pizza, and I just think that’s Neat. If you also think that’s neat (or you would like to have your own copy of my story) please preorder the ebook today.
That’s it! Thanks for allowing this breach of newsletter protocol, and I’ll see you all again in August.
