Dear friends,
It seems we’ve finally squeezed the last of those unusually warm, post-summer days out of 2025 here in New York City. As I look out my bedroom window, all I see is wind and rain. Some might even call it a nor’easter.
Fear not. The daily paralysis of getting dressed each morning has finally passed. The debate over whether you’ll be too hot or too cold has ended. Welcome to true fall.
Buckle up. It’s time to pull out that light puffer vest from storage and start a pot of chili. Winter is on its way, though there’s still plenty of time to enjoy being outside as the leaves turn. Luckily, I have a few upcoming happenings to help you make the most of this beautiful fall season.
Stay dry out there,
❤️ Alex

(1) Noticing: Public Spaces of Midtown
At the intersection of tourism and unprecedented filth lies one of New York City’s most loathed neighborhoods: Midtown. This walk is not a tour, but an ode to my favorite part of the city. Together, we’ll explore public green spaces, arcades, an underground pedestrian mall, privately owned public spaces, and more. This was the first group walk I ever created—and it’s still my favorite.
Friday, October 17th, 1pm — TGIF Edition
(2) Noticing: Public Spaces of FiDi (NEW!)
Within the cold epicenter of global corporate finance lie many underused and often overlooked privately owned public spaces, lobbies, parks, and plazas. As we wind through the distinctly disorienting streets of Manhattan’s Financial District, we will ask together why the neighborhood feels so much darker than the rest of the city, how its layered colonial history has shaped the present, and what is up with all the public clocks, among other pressing questions. This walk is a great complement to those who have already attended the Midtown walk.
Friday, October 24th, 1pm — TGIF Edition

(1) I REMEMBER: A Generative Writing Workshop
I’m launching my first online workshop: a five-week generative writing course exploring how memory can spark new work. Through discussions, readings, and prompts, we’ll experiment with documenting, archiving, reimagining, and transforming recollections of the past. Our explorations will draw on journals, found materials, online archives, and personal histories, alongside examples from literature, art, film, music, and oral histories.
Tuition is $300, with scholarships available to make the course more accessible. Apply by October 29th for aid.
Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00pm EST
November 5th–December 10th
[No class week of November 26th]
Online over Zoom
