Welcome to Moving in General

Moving in General

Dear friends,

After years of depending too much on Instagram for getting the word out about my walks and classes, I've decided to try the occasional newsletter. Welcome to the soft-launch of Moving in General.

You are receiving this because you probably attended one of my group walks, workshops, or classes. If you'd prefer not to receive these mailings (which I promise, will not be excessive), please feel free to opt-out at the bottom of this email.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this work over the years!

❤️ Alex

Group Walks

All walks are $5 to RSVP + pay-what-you-wish

***

(1) Public Spaces of Midtown

This isn’t just a tour, but an ode to one of New York’s most misunderstood areas. Together, we’ll explore public green spaces, arcades, Privately Owned Public Spaces (POPS), plazas, and more. Attendees are guaranteed to leave with a deeper appreciation of Midtown. This is my favorite walk!

  • (Tomorrow!) Friday, August 22nd, 3pm — Summer Friday Edition

  • Saturday, August 23rd, 11am

(2) Shaping Nature in Lower Manhattan

This walk will be dedicated to exploring the ways humans have shaped, destroyed, and attempted to recreate the natural environment throughout the development of Lower Manhattan. Participants will learn about the natural features that once covered Manhattan, the park system, Native American desire paths, and artist Alan Sonfist’s Time Landscape + more. Starts in the Lower East Side.

  • Saturday, August 30th, 11am

(1) Writing in Public Space: A Generative Writing Workshop

A five-week generative writing workshop exploring how public space can spark new writing and ideas. We will meet in lobbies, sidewalks, parks, ferries, etc. across Manhattan. Open to writers and artists of all levels. Guaranteed to be a good time. Tuition is $350, and I’m offering scholarships to make this more accessible. Apply by August 26 for aid.

  • Wednesdays, 6:30–9:00pm
    September 3rd–October 1st
Held entirely in public spaces across Manhattan
