It's time to join THE SPIDER-SOCIETY!
Hi everyone! I hope you’re doing great!
Not sure if you saw the big news on Friday, but I’m writing a Spider-Society series for Marvel, with amazing art by Scott Godlewski and variant covers by old pal Pete Woods and Artgerm!
In case you’ve been picking up the clues from the stories artist Salvador Larroca and I’ve been crafting for Edge of Spider-Verse and Web of Spider-Man #1, this is it! Calling all Spider-Heroes! There’s a deadly new threat - the mysterious Sinister Squadron - threatening the very fabric of the Spider-Verse, and only a team of heroes pulled together by Madame Web and Spider-Man 2099 can hope to stop them - but are they already too late?
If you now me at all, you know about my deep passion for all things Spider-Man, whether it’s classic Peter Parker or writing a Spider-Verse novel, this stuff is in my DNA. Really thankful for the opportunity from editors Nick Lowe and Kaeden McGahey. Spider-Society will be a fun, multiversal romp that will not only feature EVERY Spider-Hero, but a ton of new characters and concepts. Buckle up! The first issue hits in August! Don’t forget to let your comic shop know you want a copy!
In other comics news, I’m writing a Renee Montoya/Question three-parter starting in Batman: The Brave & The Bold #15, drawn by Andy MacDonald! I’ve known Andy forever - great guy, super talented. I can’t believe it’s taken this long for us to collaborate. I love The Question and I’m excited for fans to read this dark, noir story - which picks up some threads from my last Renee tale in Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn - and hopefully introduces a major new threat to the Question’s life! Dennis O’Neil and Denys Cowan’s The Question run looms large as an influence, not to mention the seminal work Greg Rucka did with the character in 52 and beyond, so I’m honored and thrilled to get to continue to tell my own Renee story. Hope you enjoy! First issue drops in July!
You’ve been reading Mara Llave: Keeper of Time at Comics Kingdom, right? If not - fix that! Artist Nickolej Villiger and I have been enjoying crafting the series - and it’s going to increase in frequency next month.
ATTENTION REVIEWERS!
On the novel side, galleys are here! I haven’t gotten boxes in the mail for some of these, but if you’re a reviewer, journalist, “influencer” or the like, you can request early digital copies of my upcoming novels at NetGalley!
Alter Ego, the follow-up to my LA Times Book Prize-winning novel, Secret Identity, tells the tale of a comic book artist who returns to the industry to revamp a beloved, forgotten hero - only to find some dark secrets buried beneath the luster and excitement. (Flatiron Books)
Dark Space is a sci-fi espionage epic by me and good friend Rob Hart! Star Trek meets John le Carré! (Blackstone)
Encanto: Nightmares and Sueños - you read that right! I get to talk about Bruno! Learn about why Bruno disappeared in this Encanto middle-grade prequel! (Disney Books)
Also, if you backed The Dusk Kickstarter forever ago, you should be getting your copies VERY soon, if not already! I’ve seen people posting images and I’m so excited to know the books are out in the wild - and apologetic it took so darn long! It feels like a lifetime because it has been. Thanks for your patience and understanding. (If you haven’t gotten yours, or are having trouble getting a question answered, please reach out to me here and we’ll figure it out.)
From what the folks at Ominous tell me, they’re over halfway done with mailing stuff out - so if you haven’t gotten your book, you should have it very soon.
Also: Dick Tracy #1 has sold out! It’s been amazing to see the response to the first issue - from reviewers, retailers, and readers. If you missed out on the first printing - fear not! The folks at Mad Cave have gone back to press with this amazing Michael Walsh cover. Let your comic shop know you want one - I’m already hearing these are going fast, too.
If you’re not sick of me talking about the book, I did a fun interview with my friend Elana Levin at Graphic Policy - where we talked noir, comics, Madonna, and more.
Lastly, if you’re in the Phoenix area, come find me at Phoenix Fan Fusion this weekend! I’ll be there for the entire show, signing and selling copies of pretty much everything - Secret Identity, Araña/Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow, Edge of Spider-Verse, and more!
That’s all for now! Talk soon!
Best,
Alex
