a simple week
work
This was maybe the most simple week I've had in a while work-wise. I was busy all week, because I'm pushing to finish a couple of papers early in October. But that was about 90% of my focus this week. The rest of the week was essentially taken up by various meetings. I'm excited to say that my submission to Eurocrypt is in a very good spot, with just finishing touches that need to be to done (pretty much). The other paper is not going to Eurocrypt, but we still want to try to put it up on eprint ASAP to get the ideas out. It's always harder to motivate writing without a concrete deadline though, and there's more to do on that paper than the Eurocrypt submission.
I'm a little worried that I should be distributing my time different, though. In the last two weeks, I've ended up committing to giving three talks in mid-late October. They all have different focuses, to different audiences, and for different lengths. Hopefully I get the time to do well on all of them, though!
non-work
My time outside of work was also pretty simple. It was my partner's first week in San Diego, so I was by myself most of the time. It was more or less a combination of Silksong and television. I did mange to finish Act 2 of Silksong, which had the credits roll! But I learned that there's actually an Act 3 that is necessary for the true ending. I'll go back and continue until I get that achievement in the coming weeks, I'm sure.
questions
There is a known result that sublinear PIR implies OT DMO00. But does even more efficient PIR imply any stronger cryptographic primitives, like fully homomorphic encryption?
Thanks for reading to the end! Here's a picture from our new cat wedged between a blanked and the couch cushion:
