Parental Leave - Week 2
Hola!
I am now on the second part of my parental leave for Jonathan, which will take me through the beginning of August. I will be providing weekly flash updates on how things are going!
Announcement:
- I started a Substack email list for more professional writing. I’ve posted an article on preventing incidents this week.
Jonny:
- My mornings continue to be with Jonny. We’ve had some nice morning walks with friends and also just the two of us. Thank you for those who have offered to join us on some days!
- Jonny continues to be captivated by music and Amelia has been joining in. Fun for the whole family.
Amelia:
- Amelia is really into Carmen Sandiego. Not the computer game or the gritty Netflix reboot, but rather the 90s game show for kids on PBS. Specifically she is really into the theme song, performed by Rockapella.
- I have acquired a violin to play with her, so we’re looking forward to picking up lessons together next week.
- Unfortunately, Amelia came down with a cold this week, so we’ve also been dealing with that.
- Amelia finally noticed that daddy has a glass eye[0], so this has been a primary topic of discussion over the last couple of days. She was looking closely at my eyes one day and noticed my pupils were different sizes. She asked why, so the whole story came out. She had lots of questions and we’ve been watching YouTube videos on the topic.
Me:
- I’m doing well.
- The balance of effort and non-effort has been on top of mind. You can’t force your kid to practice numbers, eat vegetables, go to sleep, etc. But you also can’t not do anything and expect those things to happen.
- I was really excited to get my Substack post out that I linked above. Please take a look and subscribe if you are interested. I’ll keep this email list for more personal updates and the Substack one will be for a more general audience. Subscribe to both, one or the other, or neither!
- I watched The Boss Baby sequel with Amelia and the plot of that movie really hit me in the feels.
