Things I Have Enjoyed & Learnt 023
Still not quite recovered from surgery, so another quieter one (I have uninstalled TikTok).
Things I Have Enjoyed
"... Wherever you get your podcasts." I still can't believe the tech giants have let us get away with this. (If your podcast is only available on Spotify it's not a podcast.)
Dan Stevens in Godzilla x Kong as King Kong's dentist and robotic arm consultant. Complete with "You can't be serious?!" and "That prototype was almost finished when they pulled the funding!" and a soundtrack by KISS. The rest of the movie is rubbish though.
The guy who carbon-dated his kidney stone.
The cover lesson in Kneecap. I feel a bit Seen.
The Department of Energy Wants You to Know Your Conservation Efforts Are Making a Difference
By turning off your lights all day every day for a month, you conserved about 1 percent of the energy needed for AI to generate a picture of a duck wearing sunglasses.
By switching all the lightbulbs in your house to LED, you saved enough energy for a self-driving car to make an unprotected lefthand turn across three lanes of traffic.
You've probably already seen Bop Spotter, but in case you haven't ... (Also the point about surveillance culture seems to have been missed by a lot of people.)
Things I Have Learnt
Most of the stuff about "Blue Zones" and the Mediterranean Diet and longevity is actually just pension fraud and clerical errors. See also.
People focus more on how many drinks they have than how much they drink. (I'm a big fan of a ⅔-pint. Norway have it right in their craft beer places with the 40 cl.)
Cyberpunk 2077 used the wrong manhole.
The End
Thank goodness for half-term.
