Things I Have Enjoyed & Learnt 009
If anyone has any suggestions for things to see/do/eat/drink in Manchester, UK please let me know.
Things I Have Enjoyed
Troubled Waters by The Streets is the best thing he's done in a long while. Reminds me of the incredible Blinded by the Lights.
Metafilter. reddit turning into (even more of) a shitshow made me rediscover just how good it is. For example, what happens if you run children's toys at the wrong voltage?
The Audubon Society Photography Awards
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It's about time I got to this. The best Star Trek thing I've seen recently, though I haven't seen Lower Decks or Prodigy.
LEGO's "Modern Art" set. Feels like a very, very late April Fools joke? But if anyone wants to buy it for me, please go ahead. (Or buy me Hokusai's The Great Wave.)
Cypress Hill did a tiny desk concert. B-Real hasn't aged since 1994.
How excited this guy is to be working with the IMAX print of Oppenheimer.
Valencia. It was a bit warm though.
The Lotus Biscoff McFlurry. Possibly only available in Spain though.
My continuing quest to add to Foursquare whether you order at the counter or whether it's table service. Please feel free to do the same. Include the WiFi password if you know it.
Buying a EU phone charger. Normally my wife and I have to carry our own chargers and plug converters each. I bought an Anker 735 from Spanish Amazon.ES the day before we left and had it delivered to the Amazon locker closest to our hotel, and now we don't need to take anything with us. Worth every penny if—like us—you mainly holiday in the Europlug zone.
Things I Have Learnt
A rusticle is a stalactite-like rust formation found on wrought iron shipwrecks.
The Mallampati score assesses a patient's tongue and mouth and how easy they will be to intubate. High scores are associated with sleep apnea and difficulties during anaesthesia.
A lot about weather. I'm currently doing two FutureLearn MOOCs about the weather. Sting jets and El Niño and so on.
The eyes of scallops use mirrors rather than lenses to form an image. They are possibly the only living thing to do so.
The tiled, off-axis mirror of the scallop eye bears a striking resemblance to the segmented mirrors of reflecting telescopes.
The End
I wish the weather here in the UK were better.
