My First Tattoo đ
Books, records, and my first tattoo!
Hi all,
Itâs Friday, and you look great today.
If youâre new here or canât remember why youâre receiving this, this is Afirmativo!, where I send updates about articles that I publish on my blog and share things that have been on my mind lately.
King of New York
On a trip to New York last December, I visited my favorite bookshop and got Lou Reed, The King of New York, the biography by Will Hermes that had just come out.

Itâs been on my night stand for almost a year, and I finally started reading it a couple of weeks ago.
Itâs turning out to be a slow read. On top of the usual new word I need to look up, Iâm checking for every reference: places on Google Maps, people on Wikipedia, songs and records on Spotify. So many of them, I thought there might be a playlist to read along on Spotify. It turned out there wasn't one, so I created it:
Lou Reed, The King of New York is a work-in-progress, non-exhaustive list of songs and artists mentioned in the book.
Beware Iâm on page 120, the Velvets havenât released their first record⌠and the list is already almost 5h long.
How Do You Organize Your Books?
This summer I found myself with some spare time and I finally got around to organizing our library, which we hadnât done since we moved in a couple of years back.
It was a fun but tiring activity. We donât even have that many books and it took me DAYS!!
The most fun was coming up with sections. I enjoyed thinking how different it would be for every different personal book collection.
For ours, this is what I ended up with:
Art & Design
Business
Fiction *
Non fiction *
Kids and illustration
Comic, Magazines and self-publishing
I would love to hear about your sections!
* These are âliteratureâ books, and the only categories I bothered ordering by author.
If you are planning to organize your library and want to nerd out about what the fastest way to alphabetize it would be, Kottke recently shared a cool video about sorting techniques.
My First Tattoo
Ten years ago, I visited my brother while he was recording his second album.
They had borrowed an attic room at a friend familyâs summer house that was empty for the winter.
I found the place so inspiring that I decided to use its silhouette for the recordâs gatefold cover.
Fast forward 10 years, and some lovely, crazy person inked that design on their arm. I can finally say Iâve got âmy first tattooâ.
Thatâs all for now.
If you enjoyed reading, Iâd love if you do me a favor and share it with someone.
Alberto
