[Thought Soup] Theory of Water week 2 (plus an update)
Hey. We're reading Theory of Water by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson.
There are some changes to my plans for Saturdays, so read on to know what those changes are. If you have any questions or concerns after reading it, please let me know!
what I'm reading
This week I'm reading parts 5-8 of Theory of Water:
- part 5: Gizhiigokwe and Chi’Mikinak
- part 6: Mappings of the Liminal
- part 7: Un-mappings Leading to Everywhere and Nowhere
- part 8: Pinery Road and Concession 11
buy the book, support The Sameer Project
If you haven't bought it yet, please consider placing your order here at Open Books: A Poem Emporium. W4G-tagged books on the Open Poetry bookstore send proceeds to The Sameer Project, one of the only organizations still on the ground in Gaza, and struggling to continue to meet the needs of Palestinians.
If you can't buy from the bookstore, please consider making a donation directly to one of the Sameer Project's campaigns, or consider sharing a fundraiser with friends. If you can't do any of that, consider sharing the reading group with some friends; if some of them can buy the book from Open Books, or even make direct donations to The Sameer Project, then that would help enormously.
info on the format (and an update)
On Mondays, I email with what we're reading this week from the book.
On Saturdays, I'll send an email at about 11AM ET. It'll mostly serve as a reminder that we're going to meet if you'd like to join us, but I'll also include an icebreaker question to potentially get the conversation going when you arrive.
🚨 new info 🚨
In the past, we've had our video chats at 12pm ET, but I'm going to try changing that starting this weekend. This Saturday (and going forward, if we're good with it) we'll meet and chat at 5pm ET. That makes it a little easier for people on the west coast to join (at 2pm PT) while hopefully still keeping it accessible for people in the EU (10p or 11p). I realize that pushes us deep into the evening for people in the EU; if this can't work for you, please reach out and let me know and we'll try to recalibrate.
