Reading Group Week 16

On Saturday I asked if you all had links to articles, essays, videos, music, or any other stuff by Palestinians, and a bunch of you delivered, so let's look at a few Palestinians' work this week.

I'm really avoiding adding my own commentary on everything because I'm mostly relaying links. You tell me what you clicked on and what you thought of it.

I'm also going to include links to Palestinians who have posted requests for aid. If you can donate to just one person's campaign, it might make a world of difference for them and their loved ones.

We’re holding on with hope, but we can’t do it alone. Your support means food, medicine, shelter — and most of all, dignity. Even the smallest donation can change everything. Be the reason someone breathes easier today. gofund.me/81080627

other things

Someone pointed me to this pretty incredible archive of Palestinian websites from the 90s. I needed to say something about it because it's unlike a lot of the other links today, and it really required some explanation.

Abdul Malik used to be a college student until the annihilation of every university in Gaza. Now he's struggling to find work and is struggling to support his family as the eldest son. If you can contribute anything, even a small amount, it would mean the difference between life and death. His gofundme is here. Please donate if you can.

News and stuff

News

If you'd been following news about protestors against genocide being prosecuted in the United States, you might have known that a number of people in Michigan were charged with felonies related to their participation in the encampments against genocide at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It appears that the felony charges are being dropped (instagram post). The misdemeanor charges are expected to be dropped as well.

The attorney general acknowledged that public pressure was a decisive factor in choosing not to proceed with these charges, and she stands by her original decision to pursue felony charges against the protestors. In other words, she would've gotten away with it, if not for those meddling kids.

Donate to The Sameer Project

If you have extra funds, please donate directly to the Sameer Project.

If you have extra capacity to donate, please also donate to Sudan Funds, a project to get money to Sudanese people surviving genocide.

That concludes an unconventional reading group email

Thanks for being patient with this week while we take a breather and give ourselves time to reset. I hope you enjoyed some of the music, art, videos, writing, and archived digital content from Palestinians this week.
