What does it look like when you let people touch the art instead of admiring it from a polite distance? We're about to find out at NXT on June 4. Below: the lineup, two more events we're hosting this month, the AI resistance is finally building a roster, and more 🌚

The official showing of our micro-residency with Claude! Inspired by Nxt's current installations, three artist teams (Geoffrey Lillemon, Ivano Salonia, and Mama Magnet, Tulika Ahuja × Reza Hasni) were given two weeks to build a thing that invites Nxt visitors to engage with Nxt installations in new and unexpected ways.
Come to see what they made and hear what they learned along the way about co-creating with Claude. We'll then invite you to play with the prototypes yourself, or if you're feeling adventurous, build on their work using Claude to make something all your own.

🎚️ OCT Workshop: Audio Flows w/ Moisés Horta Valenzuela // June 10
Train your own generative audio model. Then jam with it.
Moisés Horta Valenzuela (aka 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰), who you might remember as our first :on Slow AI guest, is back with a hands-on workshop on CoDiCodec-Flow, the open-source pipeline he's built for training small generative audio models on your own sounds. Bring 20-60 mins of audio you love (field recordings, samples, a favourite album), train a model via Colab, sample from checkpoints as it learns, and end the session performing with it live. Plus thinking out loud about authorship, dataset intimacy, and the aesthetics of "underfitted" models.
For musicians, sound artists, and curious technologists. CLI basics help; no ML background needed 🪱

Catch Lacuna (Mihir Raina), India-raised, Utrecht-based, working across experimental electronics, garage, 2-step and dub, playing live as part of the OCT 2.0 residency with Thunderboom Records and Sound & Vision. 📝 Workshop Recap: Becoming Cyborgs w/ Mateusz Mieciek (Jak Woda)
Earlier this month we hosted Mateusz Mieciek (aka Jak Woda) in our studio for an in-person OCT workshop on making music with nervous systems and neural networks. Three rounds, three intelligences: gesture to sound, sound to sound, text to MIDI. By the end, everyone walked away with a folder of scraps and a working theory of collage-as-method. 🪼 Slow AI on Karen Hao's AI Resist List
Karen Hao (author of Empire of AI) just launched The AI Resist List →: a living directory of resistance movements pushing back on the AI empires, built with DAIR, We and AI, and Refugee Law Lab at York University. It's organised around what holds the empires up (capital, hype, legal protection, public consent) and what it takes to push on each pillar.
We're very happy to see our Slow AI project featured in there as 'possible futures', alongside a beautiful long list of workers organising, community campaigns, legal challenges, and artistic interventions. Honoured to be in this company, and properly excited that the resistance has a roster now.

DAIR just launched a resource hub for workers, union leaders, and organisers fighting AI and automation at work. Directed by Alex Hanna. Case studies of unions that have fought (and won) workplace battles against deskilling tech. From the about page: "workers are being displaced by AI in the workplace, but that displacement is not due to the actual ability of AI technology doing the jobs of workers to the same quality. Fellow community member Nitzan Hermon is running an AI Literacy Masterclass at Index Greenpoint on Tuesday June 2, 6–7:30 pm. Computational thinking, when to move from specific to general (and back), and the idea that AI literacy needs self-curiosity to actually mean anything: "alignment among tools, flow, and value (i.e., meaning)."
