Anthropic to pay xAI $1.25 billion a month for Colossus compute
TechCrunch
A disclosure in SpaceX's newly public S-1 filing revealed that Anthropic has committed to pay xAI $1.25 billion per month through May 2029 for the full 300 megawatts of output from the Colossus 1 data center near Memphis. The arrangement could route more than $40 billion to xAI over the contract's life and gives Anthropic guaranteed capacity as it scales Claude training.

Why it matters
It is one of the largest compute deals ever struck between two frontier labs and shows xAI monetizing overbuilt infrastructure ahead of its SpaceX-led IPO, while Anthropic locks in the hardware it needs to keep pace with OpenAI and Google.
