🛡️ Anthropic's new AI model is too dangerous to release publicly

  • Anthropic has announced Claude Mythos Preview, a new AI model it considers too dangerous for public release because of its ability to autonomously discover and exploit serious software vulnerabilities across major operating systems and browsers.

  • The model has already identified thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities, including a 27-year-old flaw in OpenBSD and a 16-year-old bug in FFmpeg that had gone undetected by automated testing tools even after five million runs.

  • Anthropic has launched Project Glasswing with twelve partners, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and CrowdStrike, committing $100 million in credits and $4 million in donations to help defenders patch vulnerabilities before adversaries can develop similar capabilities.

🚀 Meta Superintelligence Labs ships its first model

  • Meta’s Superintelligence Labs has launched Muse Spark, the first major model from Alexandr Wang’s high-profile division, which was assembled last summer.

  • Muse Spark is a multimodal reasoning model that processes voice, text, and images, featuring a “contemplating mode” that deploys multiple agents to tackle complex problems. It delivers competitive reasoning performance against frontier models like Claude Opus 4.6 and GPT-5.4, while showing particular strength in health-related reasoning. The model remains proprietary (unlike the Llama family), though Meta hopes to open-source future versions.

  • Wang assumed leadership of the lab nine months ago following Meta’s $14.3 billion acquisition of Scale AI and oversaw a complete rebuild of the company’s AI infrastructure.

🗂️ Google Chrome adds vertical tabs

  • Google Chrome has introduced vertical tabs, a feature popularized by the Arc browser, allowing users to move their tabs to the side of the window for easier reading of page titles.

  • Users can enable the option by right-clicking anywhere on a Chrome window and selecting “Show Tabs Vertically.” There is no limit on the number of tabs that can be opened.

  • Chrome is also rolling out a refreshed Reading Mode with a full-page, distraction-free interface, launched at a time when news sites have become increasingly crowded with advertisements and newsletter prompts.

📰 Top News

🕵️ NYT claims it has identified the inventor of bitcoin

  • The New York Times published an investigation by journalist John Carreyrou claiming that British cryptographer Adam Back, inventor of Hashcash, is the most likely person behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

  • The report is based on stylometric analysis, noting that Back uniquely hyphenates “proof-of-work” and has referenced the obscure Russian currency WebMoney — both habits also found in Satoshi’s emails. Carreyrou acknowledged this is not definitive proof.

  • Adam Back has consistently denied being Satoshi, and the crypto community remains skeptical. Casa co-founder Jameson Lopp stated that Nakamoto “can’t be caught with stylometric analysis.”
