🎬 OpenAI shuts down Sora after 6 months
OpenAI announced on Tuesday that it is shutting down its TikTok-like Sora social video app after just six months of operation, without providing any reason or a timeline for the discontinuation.
The app reached a peak of approximately 3.33 million downloads in November but fell sharply to 1.13 million by February, generating only about $2.1 million in total in-app purchase revenue during its entire run.
The shutdown also ends a planned $1 billion licensing deal with Disney that would have enabled Sora to create videos featuring characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars, although no payments had been exchanged..

💰 Meta ordered to pay $375 million in child safety case
A New Mexico jury has found Meta liable on every count in a major child safety lawsuit, ordering the company to pay $375 million for endangering children and failing to protect them from sexual exploitation on Instagram and Facebook.
Attorney General Raul Torrez structured the case as a products-liability claim, arguing that Meta’s platforms are inherently defective by design. This legal approach successfully bypasses Section 230 immunity and provides a proven courtroom strategy for the more than 40 other state attorneys general pursuing similar actions.
A bench trial scheduled for May will focus not on additional financial penalties, but on mandating specific changes Meta must implement, including stronger age verification, faster removal of predators, and modifications to encrypted messaging features across multiple states.

Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics, a startup specializing in “approachable” humanoid robots designed for both consumer and business use. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fauna Robotics was founded in 2024 by former engineers from Meta and Google. Earlier this year, the company launched Sprout, a compact $50,000 bipedal robot standing 3.5 feet tall and weighing 50 pounds.
Fauna’s approximately 50 employees will join Amazon in New York City, and the company will continue operating as Fauna Robotics under Amazon, according to CEO Rob Cochran.
