🍎 Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down
Apple announced that Tim Cook will step down as CEO on September 1, 2026, and transition into the role of executive chairman, with John Ternus, currently senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, succeeding him as chief executive.
During his 15-year tenure as CEO since 2011, Cook grew Apple’s market capitalization from $350 billion to over $4 trillion, while launching major new product categories including the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Vision Pro, and leading the company’s transition to in-house silicon.
John Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and has played a central role in hardware development across the iPhone, Mac, iPad, and AirPods, most recently overseeing products such as the MacBook Neo, iPhone Air, and the use of 3D-printed titanium in the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

💰 Amazon invests up to $25B in Anthropic
Amazon has agreed to invest up to an additional $25 billion in Anthropic, on top of its previous $8 billion commitment, while Anthropic has pledged to spend more than $100 billion on AWS infrastructure and services over the next decade.
The agreement includes an immediate $5 billion investment at Anthropic’s current $380 billion valuation, with up to $20 billion more contingent on commercial milestones, and guarantees Anthropic 5 gigawatts of dedicated compute capacity for its Claude models.
Anthropic stated that rapidly growing demand from enterprise, developer, and consumer users has created significant infrastructure strain, and the expanded partnership with Amazon will substantially and quickly increase its available capacity.

🤖 Google builds elite team to rival Anthropic coding
Google DeepMind has formed a specialized team led by engineer Sebastian Borgeaud to significantly improve Gemini’s programming and coding abilities, as Google researchers believe Anthropic’s coding tools are currently superior.
Co-founder Sergey Brin wrote in an internal memo that Google must “urgently bridge the gap in agentic execution,” and he has instructed every Gemini engineer to use internal agents for complex tasks.
Google is training models on its proprietary internal codebase, which differs substantially from public code, meaning these models cannot be released externally but are expected to accelerate internal development and improve future products.

⚖️ California accuses Amazon of fixing prices with major retailers
California’s attorney general has accused Amazon of engaging in price fixing by pressuring major brands such as Levi’s and Hanes to force competing retailers to raise their prices on certain products, according to a newly unsealed court filing.
The state first sued Amazon in San Francisco Superior Court in 2022, alleging that the company penalized sellers on its marketplace for offering lower prices on other websites, thereby harming overall competition.
A 16-page court filing reveals that Amazon asked brands to intervene whenever it identified lower prices from competitors or was losing money on an item, resulting in price increases on rival retail sites.
