Federal prosecutors have charged 36-year-old Google software engineer Michele Spagnuolo with commodities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Using confidential internal search data under the alias “AlphaRacoon,” he allegedly turned near-zero-probability bets — including singer D4vd as Google’s most-searched person of 2025 — into more than $1.2 million in profits.
Google placed him on leave after discovering he accessed marketing materials available to all employees.
