🍎 Siri AI Arrives: Apple’s Long-Awaited Assistant Finally Gets Smart
Apple unveiled the next phase of its AI push at WWDC 2026, rebranding its assistant as Siri AI. The update arrives two years after the first Apple Intelligence rollout, which struggled to meet expectations.
Siri AI runs on Apple’s own models, developed in partnership with custom versions of Google’s Gemini technology. It can interpret what’s on screen, pull relevant context from apps such as Photos and Messages, and trigger actions across the system to simplify everyday tasks.
The free update lands this fall for iPhone 15 Pro and newer models. A public beta begins next month, though it won’t be available in the EU or China at launch

🔄 Companies rehire workers laid off for AI
Many companies that reduced headcount to embrace AI are now rehiring for the exact same roles. Staffing firm Robert Half has labeled this reversal the “AI boomerang” effect, based on a survey of 2,000 U.S. hiring managers.
Nearly a third (32%) said they eliminated a position after seeing productivity gains from AI or automation, only to refill it later.
Finance led the trend at 44%, followed by HR at 35% and technology at 32%. Managers cited declining quality, weaker oversight, and gaps in decision-making once business demands increased.

🙅 Doing nothing at work
Software engineers perform best when kept at roughly 80% utilization. This built-in buffer ensures they remain available for high-value, unplanned opportunities while reducing the constant pressure of backlogs and uncompensated side tasks that often lead to burnout.
💥 I design with Claude more than Figma now
Large language models like Claude can now generate functional, interactive prototypes directly inside the codebase. This removes the traditional Figma-to-code handoff, enabling non-engineers to create higher-fidelity prototypes and mockups in far less time.
⚠️ Algorithmic Monocultures in Hiring
A study of 4 million job applications reveals that heavy reliance on a small number of AI hiring vendors creates “algorithmic monocultures,” leading to widespread rejections and racial disparities. The research shows that analyzing outcomes at the individual position level—rather than in aggregate—is essential to uncover these systemic failures.
📱 AI just took 40 of the App Store's top 100
AI has moved beyond hype into real consumer spending. More than 40 of the top 100 App Store apps now include AI features, and they’re growing sales four times faster than the rest in a $1.4 trillion market. The reason is straightforward: AI upgrades deliver immediate value—such as smarter tools in photos, health, and shopping apps—so spending is flowing into practical, everyday experiences rather than just chatbots.
💸 The Inevitable Failure of One-Shot Project Funding
Software is a depreciating intellectual asset that requires ongoing investment, not a one-time project. Every line of code must be maintained and supported for as long as any customer continues to use it. Fixed, project-based budgets ignore this reality and almost always lead to future financial and technical problems.
🚀 The 24-Year-Old AI Wiz Who Counts Jane Street as an Investor
Leopold Aschenbrenner launched his AI investment firm, Situational Awareness, with no prior professional investing experience. In less than two years, the firm’s assets have grown from a few hundred million dollars to more than $20 billion. A key success has been its stake in Anthropic, backed by sophisticated investors including Jane Street — a quant trading firm that rarely allocates capital to outside managers.
