Important news from AFixt!
Tons of stuff in this installment! We’ll keep it as brief as we can, but there’s a lot going on.
AccessU
Next week (May 13-16) is AccessU! What’s AccessU? Probably our favorite digital accessibility conference in the US. The reason why is simple: The sessions are longer than most conferences. With 90 and 180 minute sessions, there’s no way to fill the sessions with marketing mumbo jumbo like you see at most conferences. Another thing we love about AccessU are the people. We’ve been going to AccessU for over a decade now and it is always a great place to meet and connect with great people, often over some of the world’s best BBQ.
GAAD
GAAD stands for Global Accessibility Awareness Day and takes place on May 16. Now in its 13th year, the purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments. To celebrate GAAD, we’re offering a free all-day workshop: “Stem to Stern Accessibility”. Whether you work in a large or small organization, follow an agile or waterfall process, are experienced or just starting out, this workshop will guide you toward reliably developing accessible and usable products. This workshop is structured to be inclusive and engaging to all skill sets and levels.
Eventably
Also on GAAD, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign for Eventably. Eventably is an events management and ticketing platform that is not only accessible but enables accessibility. Borne from years of hearing about the difficulties faced by attendees and organizers of events and the accessibility challenges of existing events management platforms, we decided that it was a time for a change. Eventably will not only be the first truly accessible platform for events but also the first that provides features that allow organizers to create more accessible events. Accessibility Club Summit 2024
In 2019, I spoke at an Accessibility Club Summit in Berlin Germany and held a workshop there as well. Put on by some very good friends of mine, the event featured curated talks and had an unconference approach to additional talks as well. It was a great time and a great place to learn.
This year they’re doing it again, June 8 & 9, this time in Amsterdam and again I’m extremely happy to be taking part. Take a look at the Accessibility Club Summit website and their excellent list of speakers.
Disability:IN Conference
Disability:IN is the leading nonprofit resource for business disability inclusion worldwide. Their network of over 500 corporations expands opportunities for people with disabilities across enterprises. Their central office and 25 Affiliates serve as the collective voice to effect change for people with disabilities in business. They also hold an annual conference and this year’s conference takes place July 15-18 in Las Vegas and we’re headed there to meet and network and learn. If you’ll be there we’d love to meet up!
That’s it for now!
