Cheaper than an accessibility audit
Don't feel like reading a long email? Here's the TL;DR: Remediating your website is cheaper than auditing it.
The other day I had a really interesting conversation. This wasn't the first time I've had this conversation, but it really solidified my believe in the way we do things at AFixt. Here's the story:
Friday I was contacted by the CFO/COO/CTO of a small-ish e-commerce company who makes skin care products. We'll call him Harry (not his real name). Like many such companies these days, they had fallen victim to an accessibility lawsuit. The plaintiff's lawyer sent a list of potential accessibility firms who could help them come into compliance. AFixt was one of the companies on the list. Harry then set about contacting the firms on the list. To my knowledge, he contacted at least two before reaching me.
The conversation I had with Harry was great. He was highly intelligent, had good business sense, and understood Web development. As we were talking, he shared the prices that he had gotten elsewhere. They were not shocking. Instead, the prices he got were right in line with what we would charge for an audit.
But here's the thing: he didn't need an audit. He needed someone to make his website accessible. So the idea of getting an audit and then getting someone to fix it is just silly, in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong: There are some situations in which getting an audit makes perfect sense. But if the end goal is to get the site fixed as a result of the audit, then you can save a ton of money and time just going to AFixt for us to fix it.
How much money? Well, the remediation-only approach from AFixt was $3,000 less than what we would have charged to do the audit.
How much time? On average, our remediation projects take 3-6 weeks. Or, about the same as an audit.
So, if you need to fix your site's accessibility issues, consider having us remediate it instead.
