🎥 Watch: Jacob and Tebu are bros. Lion bros. And they just undertook a 1.5km swim together through crocodile and hippo infested waters, a distance never recorded before.
Researchers in Uganda keep a close eye on Jacob, given his incredible life of survival. According to a statement about the swim, Griffith University's Dr Alexander Braczkowski notes: Centre for Planetary Health and Food Security:
“I’d bet all my belongings that we are looking at Africa’s most resilient lion: he has been gored by a buffalo, his family was poisoned for lion body part trade, he was caught in a poacher’s snare, and finally lost his leg in another attempted poaching incident where he was caught in a steel trap.”
And as for why the pair made such a daring endeavor? "It’s likely the brothers were looking for females,” Dr Braczkowski explained.

‘I put my hydrophone — which is our underwater microphone — on the end of a long pole and keep sticking it into fish faces,” says Lillis…[who is] among a vanguard of researchers around the world cataloging fish sounds, aiming to put a species name to each underwater call. Eavesdropping on — and understanding — all that chatter is a powerful way to reveal under-the-surface secrets.”

Quote of the Week
“I always loved running…it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.”
