Revisions and Tunes
Hello everyone and happy February! Last month was a restful month. I always find I get a bit lethargic in the winter once all the holiday excitement is over. Plus, there’s still renovations happening in the apartment below, so progress on all my writing and music has been pretty slow. But! It gave me the opportunity to rest up, start reading a book, watch TV shows I’d been meaning to watch, and ride the Wordle wave.
Let’s take a look at what I did manage this month!
Novel #3 Submission
It was my goal this year to submit my third novel to some publishing houses, so I finally got myself together to start one submission. One of their requirements was to submit a more detailed summary than I was anticipating. As I prepared the summary, I began to see places where I could tighten the book up a bit more. There were some scenes that felt unnecessary, some chapters that could be combined, and some events that could be rearranged. It was a big lightbulb moment for me! I’d been struggling for a while to do one final revision of this book. I just couldn’t see where I could change it. Now, after a long time away, the answer has become a lot more clear! So now, I guess it’s time to revise once more… with feeling!
“k”
In October I participated in Lucky Penny Opera’s 48-Hour Opera Workshop. I wrote the libretto (text) for the piece we called “k”, as well as played the oboe and sang backup vocals.
“k” is a tragic, modern story about a miscommunication that threatens a relationship. The final video is now up on Lucky Penny’s website for your viewing pleasure.
Bandcamp Friday
Today is Bandcamp Friday! That means for today only Bandcamp waives their revenue share, and artists collect more funds in sales than any other day on Bandcamp! I happen to have a few releases up on Bandcamp and would greatly appreciate a download or two! Everything on my page is listed as “pay what you can”—so any and all purchases are very welcome!
And that’s it for me! This month, I will try to get the ball rolling on that book revision and see where that takes me. I’m hopeful I can find the best direction for this story soon!
Until next time, stay safe!
