August Slipped Away...
Hello all! It’s September already? It feels like August was only starting yesterday! Miss Taylor Swift really did say it best: August slipped away like a bottle of wine. We’ve all been there!
This past month was full to the brim. I went to a couple concerts, saw a baseball game, went to the beach, and celebrated my birthday. I really wanted to see summer out with a bang! And summer technically isn’t over yet! I’m excited for what’s to come.
This month has been very busy for me in my day job. On top of learning some new things, we’re also preparing for a big charity event. A lot going on!
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to write as much as I would like. But I’ve been having fun dreaming up ways to add to my manuscript. I have to remind myself that I can take as much time as I want. Many authors I admire take years between releasing a new book. In this day and age, I think there’s a lot of pressure on creators, like writers and artists and more, to produce as much as they can as quickly as they can. Unfortunately, I can’t work like that. I have to remind myself it’s okay to take my time and live my life in the meantime. My work will be ready when it’s ready.
New to You Poetry
September signifies the near arrival of fall. Fall to me is always a reflective time, full of introspection. I have lots of fond memories of reading poetry in the fall, particularly while waiting for the bus on my way home from my old job. I used to tutor in French and teach piano, so fall was when my work would pick up again, and I’d spend lots of afternoons in transit as the leaves breezed by. For that reason, poetry and fall are always connected for me.
If you’re looking to find new poetry reads, look no further! This list compiles an array of different authors to suit your current mood.
What’s Next?
I’m going to continue working away on my novel. Slow and sure wins the race! Or something!
I also have quite a bit of unreleased poetry. I’m considering diving back in and compiling these poems into a new collection. It’s been enough time I can read them a bit more critically and make the necessary adjustments. And fall always puts me in such a poetry mood, as I’ve said. It’s the perfect time to get back at it!
We’ll see how much I actually end up doing. Work is still busy as ever, but I have hope! Gotta stay optimistic!
I hope you all have a wonderful September. See you next month!
