it’s a way of thinking, a way of thinking to imagine that to look at something is to see it, that to see something requires direct intervention; a dissecting, no, a taking apart. call it what it is, a taking apart.
you take it apart, you separate into layers, maybe thinking that with all the parts set out like that on the tray you might look and really see the thing.
with the first incision you release it instead. you make the first cut, and that’s how you lose whatever was the bird.
you lost the bird.
