It started as a blister on my neck, just where it met the shoulder; I didn’t give it much attention beyond a worried look in the mirror in the morning before leaving for school. Good morning blister, I got in the habit of saying, and then imagine my surprise when one day it broke — ha ha, yes I guess blisters will do that but the funny thing was the little green shoot coming out of the opening, at first small enough I could cover it with a scarf and pretend I was trying out a look (didn’t we all? didn’t we all, then?) but it carried on growing and the stem grew woodier and well you see how it is. No, I’m quite used to it, I mean entering a room takes a degree of caution, sure but you get used to it, I mean I did. No, you know that’s funny too, no one says anything about my tree, you’d think they would but I guess we all have our quirks, and it could be worse, yesterday I saw a man whose hair was full of birds cawing, and his eyes — I mean you could tell he never slept. I can, sleep I mean. Mainly, as long as I’m careful.
Anyway I was wondering if you would care to share one of my apples with me, they are, they are delicious.
