It's sexy math...
Ariana, you let us have it today!
If you weren’t already aware, Ariana Grande dropped the video for the stand out track on her recent album positions, 34+35 (which she makes abundantly clear what that means… 69!)
The video follows scientist Ari trying to make a sex robot(?), and and she ends up getting turned into Barbarella Negligée with her backup dancers. There are also sections of heavy choreo in this polka dotted dreamscape.
Honestly, the video could’ve lived here… While the scientist story line was cute, this space represented a soft sexuality and had some striking moments with minimal effort. The choreography here was it and the styling here was on point.
This is coming out hard as the second single, and I can’t blame her! This one charted high on Billboard the minute the album dropped, and the cheeky (explicit) sexual nature of the song was titillating.
34+35 represents everything I love about positions. It’s campy, it encompasses those strings that give it a 1950’s energy, and also, it’s just a vibe. I wouldn’t be surprised, once the clubs reopen, if this just drops about 5 times in a night. It’s slow enough to refresh the tired dancing but you can still bop to it. The lyrics are also just fun!
The music video emulates the song in that way. It’s got a lot of campy elements in those scientists scenes, and those scenes in the dotted-space are sensual. I honestly can’t stop listening to this, and I’m glad I have the visuals to temper my eyes (and it’s not just me with my eyes closed grinding in front of my mirror, unaware the windows are fully open).
Ariana has always had the visuals. Positions is turning out to deliver HARD.
Before I go… I also want to draw your attention to her R.E.M fragrance commercial she also dropped 5 days ago. It was some stunning animation, and I’m firmly in the camp of “why isn’t this a series?!”
Thank you kindly for allowing me to use this platform to make a long and dedicated post to this music video. Now go watch it!!!
