It's better than folklore 🤷

Did I just finish listening to evermore the minute it came out? OF COURSE IDIOTS (you’re nice people, I’m sorry for the outburst I’m just VERY excited).

Cover of evermore - the back of Taylor Swift's head, hair in a french braid, wearing a flannel coat
Okay vibes…

I’ve been waiting all day to listen to this album… And if I’m being honest, I’m still processing the news of this album. But here we are, and I am processing the only way I know how; live tweet shitty jokes, delete them, and then repost them here! So let us dive in.

I started off my listening experience like most die hard swifties did by watching the premiere of the single/first song off the album, willow.

To start off with such a back beat, hard driven song after delivering what was the saddest album is a major statement to be like ā€œHEY, THIS IS DIFFERENT.ā€ While I did like this song, I don’t think I can really handle Taylor playing a Mandolin in a lace white gown and a flower crown (oh wait… I see what she did there.)

Still from Taylor Swifts music video for willow - taylor swift in a black velvet robe
Though I did appreciate this Breaking Dawn Part 1 vibes…

Then I had to switch to listening on my phone because desktop Spotify could NOT keep up with the demand and speed! Here’s my honest reactions for each song in order (because that’s easier):

champagne problems - back into sipping hot cocoa by a fire place, and we needed the come down from the experience that WAS willow. Also, right at the end, Jack Antonoff was like ā€œokay Taylor… okay play the piano… But like, have a little fun!ā€

gold rush - SHE SAID FOLKLORE AND WE ALL GASPED! It’s definitely reminiscent of Red, and I can’t wait for every DJ to try and make a dance remix of this song (because if you were gonna choose a song to do that to, this would be THE ONE).

ā€˜tis the damn season - Wow sis. You didn’t have to pop off,. Wig. This is the edge we were missing on folklore. Love the mood, love the production; Aaron, you did it, and I’m proud!

tolerate it - This has big Fight Song energy for some reason, and I can’t put my finger on why? This is definitely the end of Act Two climax, and it maybe came a little too early on the album? It’s great still, but maybe switch cowboy like me for this?

still from the tolerate it lyric video - clouds with text that reads "if it's all in my head tell me now"
This was what we were all murmuring to ourselves all day today…

no body, no crime (feat HAIM) - Carrie Underwood found DEAD, because Tay didn’t give her man a chance to think before he cheated! Also, would’ve LOVED around 13% more HAIM. The fact they didn’t get even a BRIDGE… Very disrespectful…

happiness - This title is a rhetorical devise because I’m SAD from the moment those organs hit the top of the song. It’s such a nice come down from no body, no crime and definitely going to be crying to this song. It’s the epitome of 🄲 — this emoji it came out at the right time, when we needed it

dorothea - it’s betty all grown up at the 15 year high school reunion getting back together with her lost love and that… beautiful!

coney island ft The National - the guitar sounds like another Taylor Swift song and I can’t place it… Treacherous? Long Live? FUCK this is going to drive me INSANE!!! But I’m glad Aaron Dessner gets to sing his pretty little face on this one… He’s earned it for delivering on two of the best Taylor album.

ivy - Death by A Thousand Cuts walked so invisible string could run so this song could FLY! It’s a slap, and I think the pinnacle of this song style progression.

cowboy like me - this song is the love child of seven and mad woman if they fucked in Dallas, and grew up to write the self-titled.

long story short - this is a Bleachers song, and you know she said THIS ONE WILL BE THE ONE FOR THE GAYS. This ones the one I will be bumping for years to come!

marjorie - A song about her grandmother? beautiful! Her grandmother singing in the background?! That… Taylor can really make magic happen.

still from the lyric video for marjorie - a photo of taylor swifts grandmother with the lyric "never be so kind"
Words to live by…

closure - missed opportunity to end on this song and that would’ve be fun! This is a folklore cutting room floor and I… Am still a little undecided if I would’ve kept it or not? But you know what? She doesn’t need my closure…

evermore (ft Bon Iver) - Okay, a fitting end, that’s it!

All and all, this was the reputation of the folklore era of Taylor Swift, and I loved it? She really did just take all our suggestions and nit-picky critiques from folklore and applied it to this album. It had killer song writing, ebbs and flows of variously paced songs, and it’s a more well rounded album (as opposed to, you know… sad).

Taylor Swift standing in a corn field
Brb, gonna think…

If folklore was 2020, evermore is 2021… And we love to see it.

Can’t wait for the longer ponds version!
