It's an "in memorium"
Ira is one of my favourite writers, personalities, and Twitter presences. Whether it’s the official Knives Out Twitter account fully co-opting his meme format, a well placed House Wives or Whitney Houston interview clip, or a “it’s getting weird”; Ira Madison III is was a Twitter trend setter. Unfortunately, after turning in a Beto O’Rourke impersonation account and tweeting to drop his nudes if Texas goes blue, Twitter took action with it’s flimsy policies and suspended his account.
Ira’s efforts were in vain, as Texas was unfortunately red during the 2020 election. However, the legacy was not lost, as we saw Snopes issue a fact check on this incident, and Alton Brown going OFF on O’Rourke for tweeting this. While it’s all some truly hilarious rippling waves, it comes at the loss of one of the only reasons to join that damn bird in the first place.
On his Instagram earlier today, Ira posted a screenshot of an email stating his account will be permanently suspended over this.
This isn’t the first time Ira pulled something like this. The week before the O’Rourke stunt, he impersonated Amy Coney Barrett (recent controversial Trump appointee to the Supreme Court and opportunistic heathen). The stunt was convincing, and even fooled some of the Marvel cinematic universes greatest heroes.
While this day is truly a tragic one, Ira’s Instagram has gotten WAY more attention (which is nice… reading is fun, but I’m a big fan of the story). So go follow him there.
You can also go subscribe to his podcast Keep It if you already hadn’t (you’re welcome).
But while we must now consume Ira’s content in more unconventional ways, his Twitter presents will continue to reverberate within every white gay who thinks he’s snarky (myself included). It’s a hard hit to the community, and it’s something that I would classify as one of the worst things Twitter has ever done. Jack, you will be hearing from me, and I will contribute to any legal fund Ira decides to set up to counter this injustice!
