ActionsDotWork: Actions for Obsidian 1.3 & New App!

support-light-mode.png

Hello, Productivity Friends!

My name is Carlo and I'm the author of the Actions for Obsidian app for macOS & iOS. You're receiving this email because you signed up for updates about the ActionsDotWork apps on my website some time ago.

Actions for Obsidian 1.3 (macOS/iOS)

Well, I've only missed my self-imposed "End of August" deadline by a hair, didn't I? (No.) But even though the new features were a bit more involved than I expected, Actions for Obsidian v1.3 is finally out. Here are the headline features:

  • Better vault handling: AFO will now keep track of successful vault connections and allow you to choose from this list when configuring your actions.
  • Support for Periodic Notes: A long time coming, but in addition to Daily Notes, you can now also use Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly Notes
  • Support for triggering Obsidian commands: Run Obsidian Commands, i.e. what you see in Obsidian's command palette, right from your Shortcuts workflows.

See the full release notes for more details!

I just got off a Facetime call with Odin The All-Father, and he told me that the Norse Gods smile upon those who rate or review Actions for Obsidian on the App Store. Who knew? 🤯

Announcing: Browser Actions!

It's no secret that I love me some Shortcuts, and also that I live in my browser, so this idea just popped up naturally:

Browser Actions adds well-rounded macOS Shortcuts support for Brave Browser, Chromium, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi. And also for Safari.

It comes with unified Shortcuts actions, meaning there's one (big) set of actions that works and behaves the same for all supported browsers, like in this uncomfortably weak teaser screenshot:

Screenshot of a Browser Action "Get Details of Tab" action in the Shortcuts editor, with its browser selection open, showing a list of the aforementioned browsers

And Browser Action can do a lot: Creating, accessing, manipulating and closing tabs and windows. Getting page information, like title, URL, current selection, the up-to-date (!) DOM document, all of the text. Filling out and submitting forms. Running arbitrary Javascript in tabs. etc. And more to come!

A TestFlight will start in the first week of October, and everyone on this here mailing list will get a front-row spot if they like. So stay tuned!

If, however, you're super-interested and willing to earnestly kick the tires before the public TestFlight gets going (so that I don't embarrass myself), please leave a post on the Browser Actions board. Thanks!

PS: macOS 13.3+. One-time purchase for personal/family use. Commercial use will require a subscription.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks again for your interest in my work, it means a lot to me 🙏🏼

Talk to you soon,
– Carlo
