My name is Carlo and I'm the author of the Actions for Obsidian app for macOS & iOS. You're receiving this email because you signed up for updates about the app on my website some time ago.
Today's missive deals with:
Let's get to it, then!
The closed mailing list-only TestFlight was a success, I got a lot of good input, thanks to all of you who participated! Using all that new information, I've filed off the rough edges, written a lot of documentation, and kicked off the public iOS TestFlight with a new build this week! Spread the word 📣
I've streamlined the Check For Existence Of Note and Check For Existence Of Daily Note actions: they now return a simple true
or false
instead of available
/unavailable
, making it much easier to test their results in an "If" block.
The other big visible improvement was made to the Create Note and Create Daily Note actions, which can now be configured not to make a fuss if there's already a note. This eliminates the need for "If note exists" patterns in most cases. See the documentation pages linked above for details.
There's more (breaking) changes and news, so please see the "What's New in TestFlight?" section of the TestFlight page in the Knowledge Base.
If you find a problem or have any comments, please use the prominent Feedback button in the app. I'm looking forward to your input! 👍🏼
I've also released the latest version for macOS. Get it from the App Store and be sure to at least skim the release notes — there are some breaking changes made in the name of simplification and streamlining. I think it's worth it and you'll like the new stuff!
Please don't forget: Every time you update Actions for Obsidian, make sure to update the Actions URI companion plugin as well (Obsidian → Settings → Community Plugins → Check for Updates)!
Super-pleasant surprise: My personal automation heroes over at MacStories, Federico Viticci and John Voorhees, spent several minutes on the AppStories podcast talking about Actions for Obsidian: Automation April: Third-Party Apps with Great Shortcuts Support. Here are some of my personal highlights from what Federico said:
I love this thing because it's weird in a good way, in the best possible way, and clever, and potentially very, very useful. […]
[It] sort of removes the complexity […] and just gives you one visual thing that you can customize with parameters. […]
It's got predicate filtering, it's got everything. […] this totally works. I want to spend more time with this great, geeky idea for Obsidian power users.
I don't know 100% what "swooning" means, but I've swooned. I've swooned so hard.
I highly recommend checking out the episode as they discussed some really cool apps! Thanks, Federico & John! 🙏🏼
Did you write a review/ preview/ article/ blog post about AfO? Let me know, please! 🚀
I'd like to set up a new page in the Knowledge Base with links to some of the nice AfO-powered workflows out there. For legal reasons, I wouldn't host them but I'd love to to present them in the Knowledge Base: name, author name + link, description, iCloud link.
Would you be willing to share? Send me a mail!
If you have questions or ideas for actions or tutorial videos, please email me or say Hi on Mastodon: @actionsdotwork@pkm.social.
Thanks again for your interest in my work, it means a lot to me 🙏🏼
Talk to you soon,
– Carlo
