The Week in A Bad Education Towers #005

Intro

At least this time I didn’t leave it two weeks, I just forgot.

New Stuff

We finally did it, the last in my Top 100 Video Game series is now posted:

Yep, been hanging around for a while that one. What took so long was I got it in my head was that I wanted to record the video for each game, I didn’t want to just grab stuff off YouTube. But that meant disappearing into the world of Mac Emulation which, whilst better than it was, isn’t great. An also trying to do it with a near 10 year old MacBook that was about two MacOs updates behind whatever was current. So whilst it could play stuff, it couldn’t always record at the same time. The other option was to use my Raspberry Pi as a retro machine but then I’d need to get an Elgato or something to capture it so all very annoying.

Point is, I faffed around for ages getting the footage together rather than just getting it done, as always.

Speaking of which, also posted this video about Film Certificates:

Not sure when I first wrote down the idea for that but the folder for it in my Scrivener Projects file was created on 16th November 2018 to give you some idea about how long its been sat there. Not sure why, as previously noted that just seems to be my work pattern; get an idea then leave it to fester for as long as possible before actually getting round to doing it. See also streaming with the kids on a Saturday morning and calling it The Saturday Morning Arcade Fun Club.

I have several other videos in a similar state of progression that I want to get through, so look forward to such topics as Masks in Superhero Films, Hollywood Remakes and Why Zardoz Isn’t As Complicated As You’d Think.

Keep It Under Your Hat

I don’t have a huge amount of space to put stuff I like out on display, stuff which my wife sometimes refers to as “that plastic shit”. So whilst I could drop a lot of money on action figures and stuff I try not to.

However.

I couldn’t resist this new version of Snake Eyes from GI Joe aka Action Force, which I managed to sneak into the house. That was it, I said to myself and then this Darth Vader showed up quickly followed by this Doctor Doom.

I think both were sold to me on the strength of the photos of them on the site; Darth looks top notch in his photo, then Doom looks even better.

I’ve kind of got back into Doom recently thanks to his appearance in, ahem, Fortnite. I mean, I’ve always liked him since Secret Wars in the 1980s. I think the UK reprint of that was my first exposure to Marvel characters in general, that and the toy line. A angry looking guy in armour and a green cloak? Yes please. Then I later picked up a trade of John Byrne’s Trial of Galactus Fantastic Four story which had some great Doom action as well.

Point is, my wardrobe is getting close to bursting with all sorts of stuff. The day I get a display cabinet will be a fine day.

Keep An Eye Out For The Hammer

So I’ve finally figured out how to get the ITV Player on my Apple TV finally working again (don’t ask) which meant I could properly catch up on AEW on there. I mean, I could have sorted it out on my PS4 but you know, thats effort and that.

Anyways, I could very much recommend checking out the recent show with the Street Fight between Best Friends and Santana and Ortiz. It really is very good with some brutal looking bumps taken on several cars. Whats good is it’s taken two essential mid-card acts with a daft feud and made it a main event match. To be fair, Santana and Ortiz are in the Inner Circle which is borderline main event due to the connection with Jericho, but they’ve kind of dropped down in recent weeks. The whole feud started with Best Friends backing up Orange Cassidy in his (top drawer) feud with Jericho then it escalated when Santana and Ortiz involved Trent’s mum.

Just typing that makes it sound not great at all but it really has been ending with a cracker of a match. And if you don’t believe me, Dave Meltzer gave it 5 stars so, you know, it must be at least worth a watch for that.

Outro

Thats it for now, keep an eye on the usual places for my stuff including more Japanese Snacks from my Snack Box whilst it lasts!
