The Fortnight(ish) in A Bad Education Towers #011
Intro
Happy New Year! Yeah, know thats a bit late but it is the first newsletter of the year and everything. First of a regular amount of newsletters that are going to be sent out over the next year, amirite?
New Stuff
Didn't much over Christmas other than eat lots of food and video games. Mainly what the boys wanted to play, so mainly Fornite, Minecraft and random Lego games. So not much work on new videos or anything like that, which is fine? Especially when I got this graph in the end of year YouTube stats:
So I upload 300% more videos and get half as many subs? Awesome. Which is as good as time as any to get the videos back on track again:
Going to get more of these recorded, also not sure if I might change up the format a bit. Currently I play the game and record the reaction at the same time as that makes it real quick to record, edit and post it. But might spend a bit more time on it, maybe script a few to make it a bit more focussed. Having these going up weekly was good but, as you saw, it wasn't exactly driving people to the channel. Maybe I'll stream some, who knows!
Finally a Use For The Oven Hob
One thing I did do over Christmas, which if you follow my Instagram you'll know, is busted out the camera and took to shots of actions figures:
Which is hella fun. I did pick up an LED light that can pretty much switch to any colour you fancy which is great for these kind of photos. Only problem so far is the lack of a good background; these were taking on my oven hob with an A4 pink folder blu tacked to the wall behind it which, to be fair, looked good but meant that I couldn't do any wide shots. However, my plan is to upgrade this using a tension rod and rolls of paper to make a big open photo booth.
Essentially, I now have a reason to buy more action figures which is always a good thing
A Quick Round Up
Don't think I've watched anything new since the last email but here's a quick go through some stuff:
Watched Soul on Disney+ which is really good, feels like a companion piece to Inside Out in many ways. It feels like it jumps around a bit (man becomes ghost becomes cat becomes man) but the story flows so well that it doesn't matter, not to mention how it pulls at your heart strings in typical PIxar fashion
Speaking of Disney+, caught up on The Madalorian which was and is brilliant, dodgy special effects in the season 2 finale aside. Also well on board the WandaVision train; not having a big MCU film has been a bit of a drag so this fills up that hole by being something totally different. Having each show being a fairly straight sitcom with cracks appears at the edges is great, like the different credits each week. Soon as each episode finishes me and my son and have been picking it apart straight away trying to spot all of the different easter eggs and foreshadowing (why are there so many hexagons everywhere?) which is great. It feels like Lost at it's peak in that respect, in fact I did say that each episode of Wanda feels like an 25 minute long Lost orientation video
The death of Brodie Lee was really sad, really properly sad and ended up with AEW putting on a brilliant tribute show. That sounds weird, as the dude died so a bit hard to call it brilliant but it was. It was a great tribute to a great wrestler and also, from all accounts, a great person. It also makes you wonder why someone like that had to die whilst massive dicks carry on living
Been reading a new Penguin translation of Romance of The Three Kingdoms which you'll kind of know if if you ever played a Dynasty Warriors game. It's great, has loads of battles, chucks in hundreds of characters some of which barely last a page before being executed but the best this is how each chapter ends. It's normally goes "and then someone pulled out a sword. Does the person survive? Lets find out!" and then it's onto the next chapter. Its like the end of an episode of the Adam West Batman TV show and all books should do this
I got a new board game for Christmas, Block Mania based on a Judge Dredd story in 2000ad, but not had a chance to play it yet. Box looks nice though, so there's a bit of a review
Outro
Thats about it, will try and keep these on a fortnightly schedule so next week should have thoughts on this years Royal Rumble as think thats this week. Is it? So hard to keep track of time during all these lockdowns.
Anyways, bye!
