The Conquistabores Dirt Sheet #004

Intro

Happy Easter! Another week, another newsletter. The latest show has just been posted and we've also recorded the next Roundtable show which is for The Best Promo. If you’ve been following us on twitter then you may now the first challenge will be to actually decide what counts as a promo so expect verbal fisticuffs over that one. But, more importantly, we're building up to WrestleMania so expect some words about that soon.

Maybe.

Mixed Match Challenge

Yeah, not really been keeping up with this although I did watch the match with The Miz and Asuka versus Finn Balor and Sasha Banks (No Idea of Their Team Name, The Demon Boss Maybe?) mainly because I saw that gif of Asuka giving the thumbs up.

I mean, just look at that. She’s amazing. I don’t know what it is in her career that gave her that ability to emote but it’s just fantastic. I think it would be a hard switch at this stage, but I’d totally buy a heel Asuka going round like she owns the place.

The match itself was pretty good. I mean, it’s not a huge pay per view so no one is going out there going nuts, but it was good. It also underlined just what a good heel Miz is, like a proper cowardly heel, There aren’t many of these around so when you see one this good then it’s a joy.

Golden☆Lovers Are Back!

Now, as a wrestling fan you may well have seen a certain section of the fandom going nuts for the reunion of the Golden☆Lovers, the tag team of Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi. For those that don’t know the names might ring a bell as the guy that Chris Jericho just wrestled in Japan, and that Japanese guy that was in the Cruiserweight Classic that wasn’t Akira Tozawa or Tajiri. Well, turns out they have quite a history which if you want to know about the best two ways are summarised here. So if you want to be in the know, then check that out.

Ding Dang Dong - The Importance of the Ring Bell in Wrestling

Something occurred to myself the other day. I was watching one of the Fantasticamania 2018 shows from NJPW/CMLL on NJPW World and at the start of the match along with the usual ring bell to signal the start of the match, the CMLL announcer blew a whistle.

This blew my mind and for the longest time i wondered why it bothered me. Then i realised...I actually find the ring bell a really important aspect of Professional Wrestling.

We’ve all been to a wrestling show or seen a wrestling show on TV, every match regardless of any stipulation involved has one consistent...the ring bell. For me, the simple ring of a ring bell signifies all the talking and shenanigans before are done, it’s go time! It’s time to put up or shut up. Hearing that whistle didn’t feel anywhere near as important or as final as the metallic and authoritative sound of the ring bell.

New Japan Pro Wrestling is a great example of a ring bell, it’s cold, harsh and let’s you know: it’s go time!

Meanwhile this example from RevPro sounds like a kid’s play bell that cost approximately 6p to buy: it’s tiny, sounds weak and grates me every time I hear it.

And this is even a clip with our lord and saviour Shinsuke Nakamura, not even he could save this bell

However as bad as that bell well, the Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion of Shitty Ring Bells goes to all this abomination from Wrestling is Fun (One of the many promotions that existed during Chikara’s absence in storyline)

Wow….just wow….even referee Bryce Remsberg can’t help but comment on it. I hope the person who thought this was acceptable was fired out of a cannon into the sun.

Hello Fellow Youths!

Yep, in our constant drive for content we've now setup a Twitch channel which you can find right here. This won't just be for wrestling games so get ready for all types of games on there. The long term goal is when Fire Pro comes out on the PS4 we can start streaming some made up pay per views. So, on that basis, better get some proper logos made for them:

Outro

Next newsletter will have some chat about WrestleMania, maybe a big old list of predictions from your ConquistaBoys, but we'll see. And maybe that PPV logo above would look good on a t-shirt? Maybe we'll get to work on that as well. This is, of course, all before the inevitable Patreon.

Generic end message!
